Spring is the perfect time to declutter your home, reorganise and make each and every space look clean and beautiful. Rather than tossing everything into the bin where it will eventually make its way to landfill, we’ve got a few sustainable tips to share that will really benefit you and the environment whilst you’re spring cleaning…

WHAT TO DONATE TO SECOND HAND SHOPS ​



  • Clothing pieces that you don’t wear anymore 
  • Homewares such as plates, bowls, cutlery 
  • Books, puzzles and children’s toys
  • Bags, hats, belts, wallets and shoes you don’t use 
  • Sporting equipment, weights and bikes

WHAT TO SELL



  • Pieces of furniture such as tables and chairs 
  • Technology that no longer gets used – phones, computers etc. 
  • Beautiful antiques or collectable items 
  • Designer clothing items or pieces that are new
  • Household items such as fridges, bed frames and mattresses

WHAT TO RECYCLE ​



  • Pieces of paper and cardboard including old notebooks 
  • Hard plastics such as bottles and containers 
  • Old newspapers, boxes and magazines
  • Any rubbish made from paper products, plastic or aluminium 
  • Old gift cards and paper packaging

WHAT TO REUSE ​



  • Glass jars for food storage or to place small items into 
  • Woven baskets to display indoor plants in 
  • Pieces of timber than can be used for DIY projects 
  • Offcuts and pieces of fabric that can be used for sewing 
  • Boxes that can be used for storage or organising items

WHAT TO USE FOR CLEANING ​



  • Use old, reusable rags to wipe down surfaces 
  • Opt for eco-friendly and homemade cleaning liquids and disinfectants 
  • Use soap bars rather than liquid soaps in plastic bottles 
  • Use loofahs for sponges rather than manufactured ones
  • Brooms, cleaning cloths, dustpans etc. that you already own
