Our Sustainable Bohemian Homewares - Mystique Plate
Inspired by the gorgeous blooms of Spring, this colourful and intricately designed Mystique plate encompasses the hues of butterfly wings and harnesses the beauty of an unfolding bud. We adore the way it looks when piled high with Turkish delight, freshly picked apricots and crunchy pistachios.
The inspiration behind our sustainable bohemian homewares...
The inspiration behind the Mystique Plate came from the colourful blooms of Spring and the mysterious and intriguing way that a bud slowly unfolds into a delicate and colourful flower or the way a caterpillar transforms itself into a beautiful butterfly. So many miraculous things occur in nature every single day and we wanted to design a mandala plate that showcases these incredible events.
We were also inspired by the “butterfly effect” and the way a simple and small change can make a huge effect further down the track and we’ve represented this in the way that this mandala starts off as small and intricate components and then transforms into a myriad of larger and bolder patterns. In the same way that this Mystique Plate represents the “butterfly effect”, we wanted to show our community that tiny but positive changes can lead to an enormous and powerful impact in the future.

Our bohemian homewares - The story behind the art...
Following on from the “butterfly effect”, here at Sophia. we have always believed that one person can make a difference and that small, positive changes really do matter. This is especially true when it comes to sustainable living, which ultimately is what our brand is all about and we hope that this Mystique Plate serves as a reminder to “be the change you want to see in the world”.
The name “Mystique” came about because the future really is mysterious and you never know what miracles might occur because of one small change you made. For this intricate and inspiring design we decided to use a colour palette filled with blues and greens to showcase the connection we have with nature and the way it plays such a huge part in our happiness and wellbeing and we also used an array of pinks and yellows to represent optimism and faithfulness which are both extremely important when looking to the future and deciding on the changes that you’d love to make in your own life.

Wondering how our bohemian homewares are created?
In the same way the butterfly effect starts with a small change, this Mystique plate started with a single, minute dot in the centre of the page. We then used a series of non-toxic pens to draw the black outline of our desired design and filled each little component with a splash of bright colour. Before starting a mandala, we always know what the design is going to be inspired by or represent but the outcome is always a surprise as we never pre-plan exactly what it’s going to look like. We believe that this makes each and every plate even more special and unique as every piece of artwork is poured out of the heart and soul of Sophia.
Once the template for the plate is complete, we then send the design off to an Australian owned and run company, who transfer our designs onto plates using nothing but solar power. From there, they ship the plates back to us in 100% recycled materials and we hang onto them until someone special like you comes along and decides they want to give a Mystique plate or two a new home.

Sustainable packaging & shipping - From Sophia. to you...
Upon purchasing your very own Mystique plate, we lovingly package it up in 100% recycled cardboard and include a hand written note welcoming you into The Sophia. Sisterhood of Sustainability, and thanking you for your earth-changing purchase. The Sisterhood of Sustainability is our very own community of women who are passionate about making sustainable changes in their lives and helping others to do the same while also getting involved in the many inspiring projects and events that we frequently run.

On top of creating zero carbon emissions during delivery, we also remove 100 pieces of rubbish from the environment on your behalf and also plant one native tree to help reforest areas for Australian wildlife.
