The inspiration behind our fair trade textiles...
Just like our sets of Blush Linen Napkins, we were inspired by rose gardens filled with fresh blooms and lively garden party celebrations. You may be wondering how either of these two things relate to linen tablecloths but the roses and their blush coloured, velvety petals were the inspiration for our colour palette and backyard garden parties were the reason why we wanted to create the tablecloths and to be able to fill a gap within the zero waste market. If you’ve ever hosted a party, you’ll already know how much waste is create in the form of disposable cups, plates, napkins, cutlery and decorations and so we were inspired to change this “normal” approach to partying by providing our community with beautiful options that prevent waste from being created and sent to landfill and by avoiding excess carbon emissions from being produced…
Our fair trade textiles - The story behind the art...
It’s no secret that consumerism around the world is becoming worse and worse by the second, due to convenience and laziness and so by creating these organic linen tablecloths that are designed to last from one party to the next, we hope to encourage others to make more sustainable decisions no matter what the occasion. It may take a little more effort to wash a tablecloth than it does to toss the disposable kind away but you’re going to save money in the long run, reduce the amount of waste that is heading to landfill, prevent additional trees from being chopped down and be able to enjoy using a luxuriously textured linen tablecloth rather than a scratchy paper or plastic one. Wondering how our fair trade textiles are created?
Our botanically dyed textile collection has been created in a very unique way and our Blush Linen Tablecloths are no exception. For this design, we have used the natural dye from avocado seeds and skins (can you believe it creates this amazing pink colour?). We create the dye ourselves with avocado remnants that have been salvaged from our local cafés and restaurants. They save and wash the seeds for us and back in our workshop, we get to work to boil water for our dye creation.
The seeds take quite a while to release their colour, but once its ready, we then soak our locally sourced organic linen and pieces of recycled fabric in the huge pot and leave them in there for an average of 12 hours. This length of time ensures that the colour bonds to the fabric and so that you receive the most beautiful and vibrant tablecloths possible. Once the fabric has finished soaking, we hang them on a line outside our workshop to naturally dry in the sunshine and breeze. From there, we take the fabric back into our workshop, cut it into the appropriately sized pieces and then use our sewing machine to hem the edges and bring the pink and luxurious feeling tablecloths to life.

Ethical shipping & packaging - From Sophia. to you...
After receiving your order for a beautiful botanically dyed Blush Linen Tablecloth, we will carefully fold each one and bundle them together with a sparkling strand of recycled copper wire. Because of the soft nature of the fabric, they don’t need any additional protection (unlike our plates and notebooks so we place them directly into an envelope or box made from 100% recycled materials. We then use Sendle to deliver our parcels from our quaint workshop in Brisbane to your door. Upon opening the parcel, you’ll also find that we’ve included an extra little gift as well as an invitation to join the Sisterhood of Sustainability.
The Sisterhood is a community we have created with inspiring women from around the world with the sole purpose of encouraging others to lead sustainable and ethical lives. It’s free to join and as a member, you’ll have the chance to share your own knowledge and advice, enter exclusive eco competitions and become involved in our exciting events and projects. As part of our commitment to sustainability and ethicality, we also remove 100 pieces of rubbish from the environment on your behalf. The tally of how much rubbish has been removed so far is live on our home page and all data from the rubbish collection is submitted to the Clean Up Australia Day organisation to be officially recognised and to help tackle plastic pollution around Australia.
