The inspiration behind our handcrafted copper dinnerware...
The inspiration for our Honeycomb Plates is all in the name – honeycomb! The hexagonal shape of the plate and the intricate, sparkling pattern that has been created by the copper wire was based on the beautiful and golden honeycomb that bees create within their hives, but we were also inspired by the previous pieces in our copper homewares collection to create something entirely new and unique.
The weaving pattern that was used for this plate design was originally created for our Avery Baskets but we found it to be so durable, effective and stunning that we wanted to utilise it in a different way – and so the idea for our Honeycomb Plates was born!

Copper dinnerware - The story behind the art...
You’ll find as you look across our range of sustainable and ethical homewares, stationery and giftware and read the story and inspiration behind each and every product, that most of our handcrafted items are inspired by something beautiful within nature.
Whether we’re raising awareness for the amount of plastic pollution that our marine life are dealing with or talking about deforestation within the Amazon Rainforest, you can be sure that each item has a unique story to tell and our Honeycomb Plates are no different! Bees (the creators of honeycomb) face many of the same environmental challenges as other species such as habitat loss, degradation, pollution including pesticides and climate change. All of these threats have been created and been made worse by humans and so it’s up to us to reverse these detrimental effects and help to save our precious bees!

Wondering how our handcrafted copper dinnerware is created?
Did you know that our Honeycomb Plates are made with 100% recycled copper wire? Because of this, we go through a thorough and time consuming process to prepare the wire by stripping and untwisting each strand. We choose to recycle the copper wire this way to eliminate carbon emissions that would be created due to melting the metal down and transforming it into something new.
By keeping the wire in its original form, we can reduce our impact and ensure carbon neutral manufacturing (due to the whole process being handcrafted). Once the wire is ready to use, we use one of our unique and custom weaving techniques to begin creating the plate. We start from the middle of the design and work our way outwards in a spider like pattern and once the plate has reached the desired size, we use a beautiful plaiting and twisting technique to secure the strands in place and finish the design off. As with all of our products, upon completion, we undertake a quality control test to ensure that our Honeycomb Plates have reached our high quality and durability standards.

Carbon neutral shipping & packaging - From Sophia. to you...
Our copper homewares collection is unique in the way that each and every item is made-to-order, this means that your items may take a little longer to be shipped to you but you’ll know that every plate has been created especially for you. The reason we operate this way is because part of our belief is that resources shouldn’t be used until they’re actually needed, even when we’re utilising 100% recycled materials. Once your order has been received and we’ve created the Honeycomb plates for you, we then lay them flat inside a cardboard box which has been made with 100% recycled materials and use sheets of recycled newspaper or shredded, recycled paper to ensure that each plate is protected in a sustainable way.
We also include a special little gift with every order and an invitation to become part of our eco community – The Sophia. Sisterhood of Sustainability. As a member of this inspiring and passionate community, you’ll have the chance to become involved in our exclusive events and projects, enter wonderful competitions which give you the chance to win ethical and sustainable prizes, be inspired by earth-loving women from around the world and have the opportunity to share your own stories and advice. Once your order has been shipped, we then remove 100 pieces of rubbish from Australian lands and waterways on your behalf and submit the data from our rubbish collection to the Clean Up Australia Day organisation. About the Collection - Copper Dinnerware
Our specialty is handcrafted homewares with a sustainable twist and our copper homewares collection aligns perfectly with our mission to reduce waste and provide beautiful products.
Each copper bowl and plate has been created with 100% recycled copper wire and it takes up to 30 hours for one piece to be completed. It's a long process from the stripping of the wire, the untwisting, the re-twisting and then the weaving into the beautiful finished product but we believe that quality homewares come from hard work, attention to detail and quality control.
