Our Decorative Textiles - Dahlia Linen Napkins - Set of 12
What’s more exciting, the fact that these botanically dyed linen napkins have a million and one different uses or the fact that they’ve been created using our unique, sustainable and ethical creation process? We think that they’re equally as exciting and want to hear what you think of them once you’ve introduced your very own set of Dahlia Linen Napkins into your home…
The inspiration behind our decorative textiles...
We believe that inspiration can be found everywhere, even in the smallest of places, including inside a beautiful purple dahlia. The vibrant purple shades of this incredible flower were the inspiration for our botanical dye colour palette and the inspiration for the napkins themselves, stemmed from our compelling need to reduce plastic pollution, waste and emissions throughout Australia and the world.
With these two pieces of inspiration combined, we have designed and create our collection of Dahlia Linen Napkins. You’re going to love how luxurious they feel, how beautiful they look and what an excellent job of reducing waste they do…

Our decorative textiles - The story behind the art...
We have a beautiful little garden bed outside our workshop which is bursting at the seams with bright and colourful flowers, including a selection of purple dahlias. Every day, they make the workshop and studio a little bit brighter and happier and so we knew that you’d love to see that gorgeous ‘dahlia purple’ colour inside your home too! We’ve chosen to base these linen napkins off the dahlia blooms because the never ending layers of petals that they have remind us of how millions of people can come together in the same way and create something that is inspiring, empowering and beautiful and that together, all of our tiny actions equate to a huge and powerful difference.
Wondering how our decorative textiles are created?
Because our linen napkins have been created using 100% natural and botanical dyes and pieces of organic linen, we go through a very detailed process to be able to deliver the finished product to you. All of our linen is produced in Australia using organic agriculture techniques and we are able to purchase what we need from one of our local stores. With the fabric sorted, we then pay a visit to our local fruit shops and cafes to collect a few natural ingredients.
They set aside avocado seeds, beetroot skins, cabbage leaves, blueberries, onion skins and coffee grinds for us (these are all by-products of their produce and dishes so if we didn’t take them off their hands, they would be sent to landfill) and we take these items back to our workshop to create our natural dyes. We utilise a large, second hand pot filled with boiling water and for the shade of ‘dahlia purple’ that we use on our napkins, we use a mixture of blueberries, beetroot skins and red cabbage leaves.
The dye takes two hours to create and then the linen is required to soak for up to 12 hours so that the colour properly bonds to the fabric. Once each napkin has been dyed, we hang them out in the sunshine to dry and then hem the edges with the sewing machine inside our workshop. Once all the napkins are complete, we hand fold them individually and then set them aside on one of our workshop shelves. We only create small batches of coloured fabric at a time (as much as the dye will allow) and then compost the leftover ingredients so that the nutrients can be returned to the soil.

Ethical shipping & packaging - From Sophia. to you...
After receiving your order for a beautiful set of these botanically dyed Dahlia Linen Napkins, we will carefully fold each one and bundle them together with a sparkling strand of recycled copper wire. Because of the soft nature of the fabric, they don’t need any additional protection (unlike our plates and notebooks so we place them directly into an envelope or box made from 100% recycled materials). We then use Sendle to deliver our parcels from our quaint workshop in Brisbane to your door. Upon opening the parcel, you’ll also find that we’ve included an extra little gift as well as an invitation to join the Sisterhood of Sustainability.
The Sisterhood is a community we have created with inspiring women from around the world with the sole purpose of encouraging others to lead sustainable and ethical lives. It’s free to join and as a member, you’ll have the chance to share your own knowledge and advice, enter exclusive eco competitions and become involved in our exciting events and projects.
As part of our commitment to sustainability and ethicality, we also remove 100 pieces of rubbish from the environment on your behalf. The tally of how much rubbish has been removed so far is live on our home page and all data from the rubbish collection is submitted to the Clean Up Australia Day organisation to be officially recognised and to help tackle plastic pollution around Australia.
