This artistic masterpiece is something to get excited about! Our unique design and our made-to-order- approach means that these beautiful, sparkling plates are not only extremely boutique but are also exclusive and sort after pieces in the Australian homewares industry.
The inspiration behind our pretty dinnerware...
Inspiration can be found in a million different places but did you know that it can also be found in dirty construction sites? There is so much waste across every industry, whether it be food, fabric, plastic, or building materials and because Sophia. was founded on the idea of reducing waste and creating sustainable and ethical items, we wanted to make use of some of those unwanted materials. The idea first started with our handcrafted copper bowls but the inspiration has carried through into our copper plates and has made these wonderful creations possible.
Pretty dinnerware - The story behind the art...
These sparkling, handcrafted copper plates were the second addition to our copper homewares collection because we realised that there was not only a need for copper bowls, but for copper plates too! Copper is such a versatile material and while we could melt it down and recreate it, so much excess and unnecessary carbon emissions are created in the process so we’ve decided to keep the material raw and use it as it is.
We’ve had plenty of great feedback on these plates from our earth loving customers and we’re so happy to see that an old and unused item can be transformed into something that people love!

Wondering how our pretty dinnerware is created?
Because we use 100% recycled copper wire for our entire copper homewares collection, creating these sparkling copper plates is a time consuming process. The wire that we use are offcuts sourced from local electrical companies that are no longer able to use the pieces.
Once sourced, the copper needs to be stripped and un-twisted before being re-twisted into our unique copper plates. This whole process can take an excess of 30 hours! Each and every plate is made to order and is carefully woven to create a durable and unique structure. We then use a custom weave to complete the plate and to ensure that every strand has been held in place.

Once we’ve received your order for your very own copper plate, we’ll get to work to create a masterpiece especially for you. We strip and un-twist our copper wire ahead of time so that we can create your copper plate as efficiently as possible but still make every piece to order so that every tiny strand of wire is only utilised when necessary.
Upon finishing your copper plate, we then carefully package it into a box made from 100% recycled cardboard and use newspaper to ensure that the design is protected and won’t move during delivery. We then use Sendle, which is Australia’s first carbon neutral shipping company to send the order directly to your door.
Inside the box, you’ll also find a very special invitation to join The Sophia. About the Collection - Pretty Dinnerware
Our specialty is handcrafted homewares with a sustainable twist and our copper homewares collection aligns perfectly with our mission to reduce waste and provide beautiful products.
Each copper bowl and plate has been created with 100% recycled copper wire and it takes up to 30 hours for one piece to be completed. It's a long process from the stripping of the wire, the untwisting, the re-twisting and then the weaving into the beautiful finished product but we believe that quality homewares come from hard work, attention to detail and quality control.
