ABOUT BLYTHE CATE

Blythe was born and raised in Nashville, TN where she still lives to this day. She grew up an only child and believes that its because of this, that she became so creatively orientated and was always drawing, writing stories, taking photographs, or making movies! This creative passion has stayed with her throughout her life and has led her to receiving her bachelor's degree in English, working for At Home in Arkansas magazine, completing her Master of Education and launching her very own blog - The Honey Print! Blythe now balances her time between teaching and creating and uses her free time to write, take photos and produce everything for her blog.

When she's not teaching, Blythe's days start with breakfast and a hot cup of tea before catching up on the news and checking up on blog-related tasks. Then she and her husband head out for the morning to take their puppy Cleo for a walk before returning home to complete chores, read books, create content and write posts. Her daily habit is reading and writing in her journal every night before going to sleep and she mentioned to us that it's such an important routine for her that she can't sleep without doing both.

Sustainability and ethicality - Creative lifestyle and appreciating small moments

SUSTAINABILITY & ETHICALITY

Blythe believes that we all have to take better care of the earth because so many of us consume without restriction. She's passionate about sustainability due to climate change being such an important issue that we are facing right now and believes that everyone should do their part to create their own change. Blythe has eliminated many single-use plastics from her life by using stainless steel lunch containers and taking reusable cutlery and a water bottle with her when she's out.

Whilst at home, she reduces her impact by using zero waste, metal straws for drinks and bars of soap for showers and washing hands rather than plastic bottles. It's Blythe's belief that every time you forego a purchase of something you didn't really need, it helps (and we couldn't agree more).  She cares about preserving our planet and the species who live here and need our help.

- - -    A NOTE FROM BLYTHE    - - -

"Love the little moments in your life. Find contentment in your morning cup of coffee or tea; sip it slowly, and savour it. Walk in the park without your phone. Watch the sun rise; blink away your sleepiness and embrace the light. I believe we can find joy all around us, if we take the time to pay attention to our lives"

CREATIVE LIVING WITH BLYTHE

When asked what inspires and empowers her the most, Blythe replied with "I am an introvert and honestly feel the most inspired when I'm spending time alone reading, writing, looking at my favourite blogs, or perusing Pinterest. I even get inspired simply by taking walks in nature. Quiet and reflective time or time engaging with something on my own is what inspires and empowers me the most."

Blythe believes in simplifying life to find happiness and creativity and she makes the most of everyday by sticking to a routine and avoiding jam-packing her days full of activities. We love Blythe's idea of leaving time for herself to relax and breathe and like many of us, she becomes stressed and overwhelmed when her schedule is too full. She avoids this by only saying "yes" to things that she truly wants to do and we believe that this is an empowering way to live and inspires so much creativity. Blythe finds that she feels the most creative when she gives herself some open-ended time to just be.

She knows that this doesn't come easy to everyone because many women think they're just too busy, but offers the advice of structuring your day in a way that allows you to carve out time to create. It's possible, even if it means waking up an hour earlier to do something that's just for you.

"I've always stayed true to myself and what I'm really interested in - I don't copy others. I write about things that I care about and have been thinking about, and that I think others might enjoy, too"

ENJOYING THE SMALL MOMENTS

Blythe is dedicated to crafting a lifestyle that focuses on savouring every day and finding beauty in simplicity. She shared with us that slowing down and enjoying the small moments in life can be everything when it comes to feeling content and happy, and it especially is everything right now during the pandemic. She also believes that if we can be present and appreciate those small moments - such as making a healthy dinner, watching the rain through a window, curling up with a soft blanket - we can feel joyful and peaceful. If we let all those moments pass us by, then we're just living for the big moments, and those can be so infrequent. Instead of waiting around for those big moments, Blythe believes that it's so important to appreciate the everyday, ordinary ones. It just takes a positive mindset and a little patience.

When asked what ‘slow and seasonal living’ means to her, Blythe said that one thing that comes to mind is taking care to consume food that is in season! She practices seasonal living in this way by eating strawberries and asparagus in the spring, watermelon in the summer, and apples in the fall and tries to eat produce according to what's in season and considered it a bonus if the produce is local too!

She also embraces each season as it comes by slowing down and taking the time to enjoy fall, winter, spring, and summer. She said she used to complain during the cold winter days, but over the past few years, has found ways to appreciate the winter - and even enjoy it - by slowing down, refreshing and decorating her home for the new season, and seeking the cozy moments.
